Banner Maintenance: Get More Life from Your Banner

Although vinyl banners are considered a practically no-maintenance or low maintenance advertising medium, there are some things you can do in order to expand the life of your vinyl banner. Banner maintenance is easy and with only a little amount of effort, your vinyl banner will look brand new every time you use it. Having a regular banner maintenance routine is a good idea, especially for those that will be relying on using their banner multiple times a year for years to come.

Storing Your Vinyl Banner

If you will be reusing your banner, you will need a place to store it. Being that vinyl banners are capable of withstanding a lot of conditions and are suitable for outdoors, they are fairly versatile in there storage location. With that said, there are some things you will want to avoid doing in order to get the most life from your vinyl banner.

Never fold your banner because this could cause unsightly fold marks and completely hinder the way the banner design looks and functions. The best way to store a vinyl banner is to lay it flat, however, many people to not have the storage place for this method. The second best storage idea is to roll the banner. Avoid storing the banner in damp areas for long periods of time due to moisture build up in the vinyl banner. It is also important to note when rolling your banner, you should always roll it with the graphics and print facing out toward you and not rolled inward onto itself. This will help preserve your graphics; especially in the event of differing temperatures which increases mold growth.

Cleaning Your Vinyl Banner

The best way to clean your banner is simply by using a mild dish soap and warm water. If you try to use abrasive cleaners, the ink and vinyl material could be affected. When you are done cleaning your vinyl banner, make sure you let it completely dry before you decide to roll it up for storage. If you are hanging your banner as a storage option, this will be fine as well because it will be considered air drying, however, you might want to wipe off excess heavy water if applicable.

How Often Should I Clean/Dust My Banner?

This question is very general and really depends on the situation, environment and location of your banner. If you have your banner hanging in a hallway at a school, out of children’s reach, a quick duster over the banner might be a good idea every week or every other week. This will help keep the appearance of your banner new and professional.

If the banner is located in a place where there is heavy traffic, hands touch it often or is susceptible to spills and other debris, you might want to wipe it down with a mild soap and water once or twice a week or on an as need basis.

When it comes to owning a banner, these few things will help preserve your banner for an even longer life span than originally expected. They are durable, long lasting and one of the best investments you will ever make.
